Maps > Map of North Central Florida,
of North Central Florida, 1839
This is an enlargement of the north central portion of a map of Florida published in 1839 by Anthony Finley of Philadelphia, one of America's greatest map makers. Development of inland Florida is clearly evident when compared with the Finley map of the same area in 1825. The Second Seminole War was raging at the time, as more white settlers moved into the northern part of the state-Robert Reid was appointed Territorial Governor of Florida that year by U. S. President Martin Van Buren, and the first session of the Florida Senate was called to order.
