Oak Hall Ball Park
Hall Ball Bark
Gainesville’s Oak Hall baseball team is at bat in this 1890s photo card. The team was the talk of the town and the primary sports interest in those days before the Gators, before radio, before Monday night football on TV. Sporting events then were homegrown and the Oak Hall team played on a field not far from the present-day Hippodrome State Theater. Boys, both white and black, sat on the grass or leaned against the fence to watch, and men sat in their wagons and buggies. The name of the batter and opposing team are not known.
