Dorothy, Her Doll, & A Dog
Young Dorothy Lartigue poses for the camera with her doll and carriage while a dog stands guard in the background. Dolls like this were imported from Europe-many from Germany-before World War I brought a ban on their import. Dorothy was born in Gainesville in 1906, the daughter of Dr. Etienne and Allie Lartigue. Dr. Lartigue was the first public health official in the state. Dorothy married Dr. Joseph Brunet, University of Florida professor; he taught French, Latin, and Greek, and served for many years as head of the Foreign Language Department. The Brunets had two sons-Joseph Jr. and Etienne Antoine.
