Persons > Ralph Lartigue
Ralph Lartigue was 21 years old when this portrait was made on Dec. 20, 1903. He had come to Gainesville with other family members when his older brother, Etienne, entered the East Florida Seminary. Ralph grew up to be a popular Gainesville businessman, but he died while still a young man-only 38 years old. According to an article in the Gainesville Daily Sun, he died following an illness of only four days when a scratch on his foot became infected and developed into blood poisoning. Double pneumonia set in while he was confined to his bed with the poison.
