Minot B. Saunders
On a warm spring day, Minot (nicknamed "Miny") Bacon Saunders posed for the camera in his straw hat with a gardenia in his lapel. Mr. Saunders was a Gainesville grocer and businessman for over 40 years. His first grocery was located on the southeast corner of East University Avenue and 1st Street. When the building was torn down, he moved south to the middle of the block, between University Avenue and Southeast 1st Avenue. The next location was on the northwest corner of East University Avenue and 1st Street, where he remained until that building was demolished to build a department store, Wilson's. At that time, Mr. Saunders moved just north, in the middle of the first block of Northeast 1st Street, on the west side.
